The Day I Felt Like Mic Jagger by Vonnie Davis

I'd been writing toward the magic words of THE END on book two of my "Black Eagle Ops" series. According to my bullet list, this past weekend should have been the completion of HERS TO HEAL. I could feel the sigh of relief building. Calvin had promised me a celebratory meal out. I was more than ready for free time. Mental rejuvenation time.

After all, I'd been writing this book from ten am until eight or nine pm seven days a week for three months. I was more than ready for a break.

The hero's proposal had been offered and accepted. Then a couple hours later, the hero tells the heroine about his new job. I figured she'd be happy. But was she? No-o-o-o-o! In fact, she inhaled a heated breath of air and hurled--hurled, mind you--orders for him to refuse the job. "No!" I screamed at the computer screen. "If you say that, he'll walk out." And, of course, she said it and was shocked when the door slammed in her face.

I glanced at my bullet list taped next to me. I had three scenes to write. I did not have time for this foolishness. I stalked to the kitchen and poured another cup of coffee to wash down headache medicine. And Mic Jagger came on the oldies radio station I play on low.

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead
I fell down, to my feet and I saw they bled
Yeah, sure and I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread, sure
Yeah, I was crowned with a spike right through my head
But it's all right now, in fact it's a gas
But it's all right
I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas

(** Lyrics by Mic Jagger and Keith Richards)

So, is HERS TO HEAL finished? Well, no...not quite. I get a shot in my retina at 11:30 today. Between the shot and 5 different types of eye drops, my vision will be done for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow. I'm hoping tomorrow will be the magic day. Then not only will I sing Mic's song, but with a banana in my hand like a microphone, I'm strutting and prancing through my kitchen singing...

Well, it was Wednesday when the sun shone upon my head. Yeah.
And I finally put that dratted book to bed. Yeah.
So, it's all right, now, now that it's done.
'Cause I'm a Romance Writer,
Where, where, where is my choc-OH-lat?

You always start my day with a smile, and a chuckle, Vonnie. I have every confidence that you'll be enjoying that well-deserved celebratory meal by the end of the week. Hope all goes well with your eye procedure today. (A needle stuck in the retina? Yikes!)

You're up to all of it, Vonnie. Shot in the eye, and all. Savor that meal. You've no doubt earned it. Yesterday, I had a manuscript, I thought, set to go. NOT.As you said - Tomorrow! Oh yeah!

Thanks, Leah. I love making people smile. I have dry macular degeneration in one eye and wet in the other. See? Even my eyes don't match. The wet macular degeneration is caused by slow bleeding in the back of my retina sooooo the retina specialist injects medicine at over a thousand a pop into the front of my retina. Initially it was monthly. Now it's every other month.

I hope so, Margo. I'm sure you'll have that manuscript shining and off tomorrow.

Love the Stones lyrics you use for inspiration! You'll conquer this final twist and finish your book. BTW, I thought you were supposed to have more time for each book now, so you wouldn't make yourself crazy. What happened to that plan?

What happened with having more time? Calvin fell 5 times. I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder lifting him up and had to go two rounds of physical therapy. AND my characters went amuck. In other words, life. I didn't plan for that. Drats!

Vonnie, one of my golf friends has the same eye malady you have...the bleeding thing...with the same shot-in-the-eye course of treatment. I'm saying ouch as I write this. But she's an eagle-eyed golfer and you're a word-perfect writer. Glad the shots are working for you both. Now there's nothing to prepare a writer for a character who takes matters into her own hands. Jumpin' Jack is right! As a pantser, I welcome these surprises. I figure surprising the reader is tantamount...if your character surprised you, for sure the reader is going to get whiplash! Keep at it, kid. But also find out why Calvin is falling...that isn't right and I'm worried about him, too!

Thanks, Rolynn. After much testing, it was determined the two blood pressure meds Cal had been on for about 10 years were suddenly too much. Our bodies keep changing on us, don't they? The doctor took him off one, keeping him on the medicine that also keeps his kidney disease from progressing. A diabetic, he has stage 3 kidney disease, but we've been able to keep his numbers stable for 5 years with diet control. Only taking the one medicine seems to have eliminated the falling. He broke several stands, a commode, and gave me who knows how many coronaries. It was rough here for a while.

Gosh, Vonnie! I'm so glad you've got this under control. But this probably means you have to sneak into the closet to eat your stash of chocolate so Calvin isn't jealous :-) Do tell us when you've finished your book. We'll do a cyber celebration.

I'm busy as H and on a clunky backup computer but took the time to read ya! Thanks for the uplift.

I don't know how you keep going with such good humor, but I'm glad you do! I'm also glad to hear they've found a cause for Calvin's falls. We're all too old to be doing that. OG and I are both fraying a bit around the edges, but we try to put one foot ahead of the other with a smile - just like you and Calvin!

Ha, love this! I'm sure you will Mic Jagger the heck out of those last few scenes. Thanks for the laugh!

Okay, Vonnie. Did he come back? Did she change her mind? What do you mean I have to wait until the book comes out?

A shot in the eye? Yikes! And I was scared of cataract surgery.
