Great Opening Lines by Betsy Ashton

The course of true love never did run smooth. ~ William Shakespeare

As writers, we are taught, no, have it beaten into us, that we need a great hook to begin a story. I'm going to tell you a story. You tell me if this is a good hook or not.

She: I'm too exhausted to go out tonight. I want to stay in the hotel and soak in a hot bath.

Girlfriend: You have to eat. Let's go to this cool club, have dinner and you can go home.

She (reluctantly): Okay.

Later, the meal is consumed and She is still tired.

She: I'm going to the bathroom before I take the subway back to the hotel.

Girlfriend: Go ahead. I'm going to dance.

She stands in a long line. He notices her.

He: When you get done in there, do you want to dance?

Yes, dear Roses, my hubs asked me to dance when I waiting to get into the bathroom. Suave? Maybe. It worked.

What was the best hook a guy used with you? Did it work?

I like it! An unusual opening to a love story...

Awww. :-) I met my husband at a dorm party at Penn State. I was minding my own business when he plopped himself next to me and said, "You're sitting in my bed." :-) (No, I had no idea whose room I was in. ... Hey, I was a stupid kid!) That was almost 40 years ago.

I'm so sorry I dropped this and ran. I wasn't feeling well and forgot all about monitoring the responses.
