Cruisin’ With Questions by Donna Michaels

Hello, it’s Donna Michaels blogging from the high seas!

I’m currently cruising the Caribbean. I know. Woot! Something I've wanted to do for two decades.

This first picture was taken from the balcony off my room. If you look really hard, you can see Cuba in the background. Too cool.

The day was Just beautiful.

When we returned to our room after dinner last night, we opened the door to this.

Isn't that cute??

Tonight it was a koala!

Seriously too adorable to use. lol

The photo on the right was taken later at night from my balcony.  I sat out there and enjoyed the beautiful, calming night.

I can so get used to that! ;-)

Today, as I sat and people-watched on deck, I had voices talking in my head, whispering ideas for a book set on a cruise. Happens no matter where I go.

I’d love to pose a question to authors, and one for readers.

I’m positive I’m not the only author who hears voices while on vacation. My question for authors:

Where have you gone, and what book was the result?

And my question for readers:

What setting, resort, island, place…etc. would you love to see in a book?

We authors would love to know!

That’s it. Keeping this short. Looking forward to reading the comments when I get back home on Sunday! You all have a great week!

Thanks for reading,

~Donna

Donna, thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures. They're awesome.

To answer your question, my first trip to Pairs sparked the Red Hand Conspiracy series, a romantic suspense set in Paris...terrorists, French agents, American travelers. I've gotten the rights back and will soon revamp to self-publish. A trip to a friend's condo along the Gulf of Mexico in Indian Rocks Beach, just south of Clearwater, FL became the setting for my firemen series, Wild Heat. A Wild Rose Press writers retreat at a dude ranch in the hill country of Texas is now the setting for my Black Eagle Ops series. My second trip to Paris sparked a romance set during the Lost Generation with writers and artists who frequented the original Shakespeare and Company. We walked the streets around the building and I took pictures like crazy. I haven't started it yet and I doubt a publisher will want it, so it's on my self-pub list. Vacations do spark ideas.

Looks like you're having a great time! Vacations? Hmmm...those are in short supply. I think I can honestly say I've never taken a vacation that sparked a book idea. But, I've used settings from places where I traveled years and years ago. So maybe I hoarded all that visual info like a squirrel with nuts, and a few of them roll out every now and then! Or maybe I'm just nuts... LOL

Big Bay, B.C. sparked LAST RESORT; Petersburg, AK led to LIE CATCHERS; Aix en Provence=CEZANNE'S GHOST (in process). Settings are important to me...and on my vacations, I can't help but put a novel smack dab in the middle of things. Hope you have/had a great cruise!

Oh my gosh, gorgeous! I'm so jealous. That would be an awesome setting for a book. I have always wanted to set a book in a foreign country, but I feel a bit out of my element so I haven't attempted it. Maybe some day...

Love your pictures. I plan to take some on my cruise (shortly). I'm sure I will hear those voices crying out for a story.
