A Special Book Signing by Alicia Dean

I have a book signing coming up, and this time, even if I have no attendees, I'll still enjoy myself. This time, the signing is in the town where my sister and brother-in-law live. My gothic mystery novella, Haunting at Spook Light Inn, is based on an actual phenomenon, a 'Spook Light' in Northeastern Oklahoma. I previously blogged about how I was researching and idea for an Oklahoma mystery and I ran across the spook light info, then discovered it was 15 miles from where my sister lives. Recently, my sister contacted me because a friend of hers knows the owner of a book store in her town of Miami. They put me in touch with the manager, who offered to display Haunting at Spook Light Inn in their 'local interest' section and invited me to do a book signing.

Now the time has come. The signing is next Saturday. One of my other sisters (I have 4 total), is going with me to Miami on Friday and we are staying the weekend with Ruth and Tom. Even if the signing is a bust, I'll be hanging out with my family, and visiting an awesome book store/coffee shop. All in all, that will be a pretty great weekend.

It makes me sad that there are so few brick and mortar book stores left. I've done signings in places other than book stores, but it's just not the same. What do you think? Where do you like to do book signings?

Have fun, Alicia. You have the right attitude. I'll bet you get more visitors than you expect. The local attraction is sure to bring in some people. Good luck.

This signing sounds like so much fun! People will turn out since it's a local theme, and you have a built-in support system. Have a great time and let us know how it goes.

Thanks, Diane and Jannine. I'm sure I'll have a great time. I'll be sure to let you know!

Tying in a local theme is sure to help. I've done signings everywhere from bookstores to perfume shops to gift stores. I've had great success and I've had no one. Just never know. But if there's another reason for me to be there, then it doesn't feel so bleak if no one shows. Good luck and have fun. You need to report back!

Alicia, you will truly enjoy the signing, especially if you pick a high volume time to sign and the bookstore helps you advertise. I like 'themed' signings the best (remember my golf book, BAD LIES) that I sold in a pro golf shop. You've got me thinking about my new book about France and Cezanne. Maybe an art house? Thanks for the ideas! Good luck with sales. Don't forget to have a raffle so you can gather e-mail addresses!

The local angle should definitely help to bring people out. I wish you big crowds and many sales, but it sounds like it's going to be a wonderful weekend either way

Alicia at least your family will be there,I assume, so you won't feel alone. I had a signing at the B and N in Loveland for 'Loveland' which was a total disaster yet the night before did one at the local museum which was a huge succss. Go figure. Your book sounds great--good luck!

Thanks, Brenda. I agree. I'll be okay if no one shows, but hopefully we'll have a few. I'll be sure to report back!

Hi Rolynn, yes, I do remember your book signing at the golf club. It was a great success, if I recall. Love the idea of the art house for your next one! Oh yes, good idea about the raffle!! Thanks.

Thanks, Leah, and yes, it will be! :)

Right, Andrea, they will be there and I'll enjoy just being in the quaint book store. Thanks so much!!

I will, Margo, thank you!
