Enough of saying ‘let’s take a golf trip together.’ If this is something a bunch of friends want to do, then someone has to organize the ding-dang thing. Time’s a wasting and I'm not getting any younger. I'm taking control of my bucket list!
Most of you know I’m a golfer, leaving my writing desk to play a couple times a week...for exercise, for the competition and for the camaraderie. My husband doesn’t play golf, so I’m taking these trips with my girlfriends. Ready? Set? Go!
What golf courses are in my bucket? Easy! I pulled up a list of the 30 best golf courses in California, from Golf Magazine:
1. Pebble Beach, Pebble Beach
3. Pasatiempo, Santa Cruz
4. Torrey Pines (South), La Jolla
5. Trump National LA, Rancho Palos Verdes
6. Spanish Bay, Pebble Beach
7. CordeValle, San Martin
8. PGA West (TPC Stadium), La Quinta
9. Pelican Hill (Ocean South), Newport Coast
10. La Quinta Resort (Mountain), La Quinta
11. Rustic Canyon, Moorpark
12. Pelican Hill (Ocean North), Newport Coast
13. Poppy Hills, Pebble Beach
14. Indian Wells (Players), Indian Wells
15. Bayonet Black Horse (Bayonet), Seaside
16. Marriott Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert
17. Aviara, Carlsbad
18. The Grand, San Diego
19. Barona Creek, Lakeside
20. TPC Harding Park, San Francisco
21. Desert Willow (Firecliff), Palm Desert
22. La Costa (Champions), Carlsbad
23. Silverado (North), Napa
24. Old Greenwood, Truckee
25. Maderas, Poway
26. Half Moon Bay (Ocean), Half Moon Bay
27. Indian Wells (Celebrity), Indian Wells
28. Journey at Pechanga, Temecula
29. Saddle Creek, Copperopolis
30. Coyote Moon, Truckee
Three of us drove to Palm Springs last week, staying there three nights to play golf courses #10, #21 and #11. No question about it, we had fun and we were challenged…and we’ll be ready to play more of the courses on our bucket list next year. Goal? At least three courses a year for the next 9 years. Can we do it? You bet we can!

Love it, Rolynn. Decide, take charge and get it done. Congratulations. Best of luck with the new book.
You go!!
I want to go to Europe. Not sure when I'll get there. I'm going to need to sell a LOT more books! LOL
If you get to the courses in Truckee, call me and we can meet face to face! I bet you could turn these golf trips into "meet your online author buds" trips on the side!
What a great idea, Jannine. Would love to meet my author buds in person! I forgot you live near Truckee. I have a friend who lives in Grizzly...nearby golf community. Time to make another bucket list!
I have a brand new one for your list, Rolynn. Top of the Rock at Ridgedale (south of Branson, MO) recently opened with a Legends tour competition. It was built by Johnnie Morris of Bass Pro fame. I haven't been down to see it yet. But if you come this way, let me know--I live only 45 miles north.
Well, Rolynn, it certainly seems your knees are up and running LOL. I'm doing one of my bucket list items this summer with a cross country, 2 month road trip with my daughter. You keep countin' off those golf courses, girl!
Barbara, thanks for the tip on Top of the Rock! Geesh, lots of golf courses and so little time!
Andi, my new knees helped me get my index down two strokes. Glad you're traveling with your sweet daughter...two months...wonderful!
It's all about taking charge of your own happiness, isn't it? Good for you, Rolynn!
Since five of these courses are in my backyard, I expect to see you up here--and soon! I only have two things on my bucket list at this point: visit Scotland with my husband and see the Aurora Borealis. Maybe I can fit them both into the same trip!
Great Title for your new release. Wishing you all good things (and lots of sales!).
Thanks for the good wishes, Diane and Angela.
and Angela, finding 'new' titles are hard these days...worked my head off to think of this one! Alison, I like your bucket list....Scotland is astounding, as are the Northern Lights. Which course is closest to your back yard? I'm comin'!
Wow, that is an impressive list! I don't have a bucket list, but you've inspired me! I think meeting as many of my online friends in person would have to go on there....which would mean a lot of travel! :-)
Love the title and cover for "Fear Land." Wishing you much success!
Hi Rolynn, Excellent post...it got me thinking about my own list which needs to be updated. Best of luck with "Fear Land! Joanne:)
