High School Brenda |
I think I spent my high school years yearning for guys that just weren't that into me. There were two brothers, Jeff and Scott: one was curly-haired, wide, white smile, lean yet muscular. The other had straight, short hair, was studious and more serious. Different from square one, and I loved them both.I would've taken either one of them - but neither one wanted me.
Then there was Dale. We were buddies. Ugh. I melted every time I looked into his purple eyes...and he'd pat me on the back. Buddies.
Ted was the bass player in a local, rock band. Those before him might have been considered puppy love, but I had the hots for Ted. True lust. He never gave me a second look.
Then there was that guy who had my heart the minute he transferred from California. Oh my gosh. Everyone knew how hot California guys were. But he ended up writing poetry to my girlfriend, Peggy.
Maybe my high school years prepared me to write the villain in The Art of Love and Murder, the first book in my Love and Murder Series. She's just not that into him. Makes a guy a little crazy and murderous...
Lacy Dahl never questioned her past
until the deaths of her adoptive parents and her husband. A husband who wasn't
what he seemed. Her research uncovers secrets about the mother she never knew;
secrets that dispute the identity of her father and threaten her life.
Sheriff Chance Meadowlark is still
haunted by the murder of his wife and the revenge he unleashed in the name of
justice. When he meets Lacy he is determined not to become involved, but their
pasts may make that impossible. As they move closer to the truth, saving Lacy
may be his only salvation.
Lacy begins to think the present is
more important than her past...until Chance's connection to her mother and a
murder spin her deeper into danger and further from love. Will the truth
destroy Lacy and Chance or will it be the answer that frees them?

Awesome story, Brenda. Another to add to my TBR pile. Great story about your high school crushes.
I always had crushes on unattainable guys in HS too. Maybe because it was safer. My illusions were never shattered. I got a smile out of yours. Thanks!
Thanks, Diane and Jannine. Maybe not shattered, Jannine, but truthfully I wouldn't want to repeat the experience!
Gosh, my first kiss came from a guy named Dale. He didn't have purple eyes like your Dale, but if the two guys had kissing in common, you didn't miss anything by staying buddies. LOL. I enjoyed your post.
I first met the boy who "wasn't into me" in seventh grade - a devastating time. He looked like a young Greek god (in my eyes), and I had braces and dorky glasses. Over the next six years, I improved. He couldn't - he was already perfect. He was the captain of the football team and became a lawyer. I haven't seen him since 1972, but I used him as the model for the hero in UNWRITTEN RULES. LOL Sometimes we never grow up.
Funny, Ashantay, but I'll never know!
No we don't, Alison. I had a rude awakening a couple of years back on another guy I had a huge thing for once upon a time. Saw a picture of him in an article on the internet. One of those - gosh, glad that didn't work out moments! LOL
Oh my gosh! Those high school crushes. You brought back memories for me, Brenda. Love your glad that didn't work out moment. Best of luck with the series!
Thanks, Margo.
I went to an all girls convent school instead of HS, but there was one boy I used to see on the bus. His name was Kevin. He was tall, and broad with a cheeky grin. All the girls liked him and he knew it. Fast forward seven years, I'm now twenty-two and bumped into him at London Airport. I was in my British Airways uniform and he asked me out. Unfortunately, after a few minutes of conversation I realized he was a druggie :( and as dumb as a post. Thank God he wasn't into me.
Funny, Marlow. There's an old Garth Brooks song - thank God for unanswered prayers!
Okay, now I have pull out my yearbook to see if I can figure out who these guys are! Crushes in h.s.? Yep, but too shy to do anything about it!
LOL I didn't change names so you just might figure it out.
Ah, great post. I definitely remember those crushes. I remember them even back to grade school. In 7th grade, though, I made the mistake of having a crush on a coach. I was devouring Harlequin romances at the time, and he looked just like the heroes, tall, dark hair, broad shoulders, aquiline nose (I think, I wasn't sure what that was), and piercing green eyes. Sigh...needless to say, that went nowhere. Nor did any of my other crushes through school, but I still remember all their names, LOL. Although, now that I think about it, the coaches name escapes me. Hmmm.... I have often wondered what these 'crushes' look like in later years. Thanks for the fun trip down memory lane.
By the way, the movie was really good. It's about how to tell when 'he's just not that into you' rather than making excuses of why he doesn't call, why he doesn't ask you out again, etc. If he doesn't, it means, he's just not that into you. :) It's a really cute story. You should watch.
Ah the memories, Alicia. Movie does sound like a good "chick flick."
