My Rambling Introduction by Alicia Dean

Rather than write an essay of my background, my achievements (well, THAT wouldn’t exactly be an essay), my likes and dislikes, etc,  I thought I would just share a few tidbits about me, along with a few random pieces of news. More or less a ‘stream of consciousness’ kind of post. We all have things to do, right? You don’t have time to listen to me drone on and on. Our brains are tired, and we don’t want to fill them with a lot of additional info. Besides, I don’t know about you, but I have a glass of wine waiting for me. J

So, here goes…

I am an editor for The Wild Rose Press in their suspense line under the name, Ally Robertson. I am also an author with around 15 titles (short stories and novels) published with various publishers (some self-published) under my pen name, Alicia Dean (one of them is under Winter Frost). I write in a mixture of genres, but mostly suspense and paranormal. You can learn more about my books (and me in general) here: Alicia Dean Website

This past weekend, my local RWA chapter, OKRWA, held a mini-conference with guest speaker, William Bernhardt. His program was fantastic. He covered everything from story structure, to plot, to characterization, to premise, and so on and so forth. I can’t wait until I have time to actually write so I can apply what I learned. (I am currently working on a sequel to my vampire novella called Liberty Divided. I’ve added the cover here because we all like pictures in blog posts, right? Besides, I think it’s awesome)

MY MOST EXCITING NEWS!!! – I was commissioned by Amazon as one of the launch authors for their new Kindle Worlds platform. I have two Vampire Diaries stories and one Gossip Girl story releasing this month.  SO thrilled about that!

Which brings me to another tidbit about me. I love watching television (and movies). I mean, I love it. I am hooked on so many shows, it’s a wonder I get anything else done. I suppose I watch too much television… Nah, that’s just silly. Can it ever really be too much? I absolutely LOVE discovering new shows. My latest ‘find’ is a new Fox show, The Goodwin Games. Has anyone seen this? I only watched the first episode, but love it already.

I live in Edmond, Oklahoma. I have three grown children who are my best friends. I have a wonderful day job as a legal assistant at a family law firm, and my bosses are fabulous.

I love Elvis Presley, MLB, and the NFL. I love reading (that’s a no-brainer). I am a picky sleeper and have to sleep with a box fan, or some other kind of ‘white noise,’ and I sleep with a pillow over my head. I’ve been told I snore, but I think that’s a lie.

My top ten ‘recent’ list of hottest guys are: (In no particular order)

Colin Farrell

Ian Somerhalder

Joseph Morgan

Gerard Butler

Michael C. Hall

Josh Duhamel

Jason Bateman

Alexander Skarsgard

Patrick Dempsey

Timothy Olyphant

CHANNING TATUM (I had to add this in after Leah mentioned him. I definitely intended him to be on the list. MOST definitely)

Oops, that’s eleven (now 12). Did I mention I suck at math? :-)

Thanks for listening, if you’ve gotten this far. Feel free to share a little about yourself. Or a lot.

By the way, I’m very happy to be a part of this awesome blog!

I think it’s time for that glass of wine. (Clean Slate Reisling in case you wanted to know one more useless fact about me)

Impressive hot-guy list, Ally. I had to check out Jason Bateman because I could only picture him from the Silver Spoons days...when he was like 12 or something. (I don't get out much.) Seems he did grow up into a very handsome man! :-) I'd have to add Tanner Channing to the list. (And I still haven't seen Magic Mike!)

That's so funny, Leah. I just noticed I did not add Channing Tatum and he is right at the top. Not sure how I missed that one, but I am about to correct it. I DID see Magic Mike and that's when I fell in love. Oh my... As far as Jason Bateman, you are missing out if you haven't been keeping up with his movies. He's adorable and so funny. You must watch Horrible Bosses. Have you not seen it? Thanks for stopping by. (You also MUST watch Magic Mike. Immediately)

I can tell from your list I don't watch TV or go to the movies much. I'll have to check these guys out.
I still have a thing for a younger Mel Gibson and Tom Selleck.
Welcome to the roses, Alicia.

Welcome, Ally! I have to tell you all that this woman is a terrific editor - she had the good taste to pick up my first book when others couldn't see through the newbie mistakes! LOL For that, I'll always be grateful. My husband tells me I'm hooked on too many TV shows, but I tend to drift toward reality. The Bachelor, The Voice, Survivor... I won't bore you with a complete list. I do my best NOT to get hooked on new shows. There are only so many hours in the day...

Hi Barbara,

Trust me, they're worth checking out. :-) But some of them, you have to actually watch them in shows/movies to get just how appealing they are. I certainly don't have a problem with Mel Gibson or Tom Selleck. Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks, Jannine. What a nice thing to say. Of course I took a chance on you. I loved your story. And look at you now. :-) I'm not much on the reality shows. I enjoy escape from reality. And thank you for the welcome. I'm happy to be here.

Welcome to the Roses, Alicia. Tops on my list of must-watch TV shows is "Castle". In fact, it inspired my next book! Your hottie list also includes one of my favorites - Gerard Butler.

Hi Alison,

Thank you for the welcome. I have watched Castle in the past. I liked it but it wasn't something I continued to follow for some reason. Interesting that it inspired your next book. Look forward to reading it.

Welcome, Ally. Though I'm not much of a television watcher, I will definitely join you in the wine. White for me. Muscato, Chardonnay. I have four grown children, and a niece and her family who live in Edmond. Spent some happy times in the beautiful state of OK recently while hubby was going to school. I'd come back in a heartbeat.

Hi Margo...thank you for the welcome. I also like Chardonnay. Awesome that you have family in Edmond. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Oklahoma. Yes, not everyone is a tv addict like I am. :-)

Hi Alicia. I'm one of the bad roses who doesn't usually comment on our blog. But when I skimmed and saw what kind of sleeper you are (only I sleep with my head under the covers), I immediately identified. And yes, it's a nasty rumor that I snore. And then you end with a glass of wine. We have more than a couple of things in common. LOL

Well, how embarrassed am I that I couldn't even get my own hot guy's name right! D'oh! That's what I get for posting before the sun is up. ... Okay, okay...the truth is that I'm so NOT with it, I did think his name was Tanner Channing! Thank you for your (as always, gentle) correction, not to mention the first laugh of my day.

Alicia Dean said...

Hahaha, Brenda. Well, I'm glad I brought you out of lurkdom. Yes, we DO have more than a few things in common. Why do they want to spread rumors about us? I don't get it. LOL. Thanks for stopping by!

Leah, NEVER post before the sun comes up, don't you know that by now? :-) No worries about getting the name wrong. Does he even NEED a name when he has all that other stuff going for him? ;-) And it's not just you. I used to think his name was Tanning Chatum, until I fell in love with him. To be honest, I used to wonder what everyone saw in him. Then I watched Magic Mike, and all questions were erased. My, my, my. I also watched more of his movies and wondered why I was just now getting on board the Channing train. LOL.
