I’m on a high right now, literally and
figuratively, flying from Burbank, CA, to Las Vegas. You’re aware my husband and I are touring the
national parks this fall; I took a short break from that to attend the InD’Tale
conference in Burbank. I already know
the dates of the 2017 conference at the Marriott Burbank…the second weekend in
October. I hope you save the dates on
your calendar; I also hope you’ll submit a novel you published in 2016 to
InD’Tale before the end of the year.
Best reviewers around…and a chance to compete for the Rone (rhymes with
pony) award.
Only four years old, InD’Tale nurtures small press
and self-published authors. More
important, the cadre of authors, bright and prolific, are the warmest, most
enthusiastic people you’ll ever meet at a small conference…with a love for
learning, mentoring, dressing up and having fun. Seriously, every waking moment was filled
with interesting people and things to learn. These women LOVE to dance, too! And men who are Indie writers show up along with a group of men who serve as cover artists, the sweetest group of guys, devoted to the InD'Tale group. Here I am with Sean and Michael.
A big high for me was winning a Second Runner-up
award for FEAR LAND. Sean and Michael escorted me to the podium to grab my
certificate. I have read all eight
finalist novels in my category and feel lucky to come in third for 2016!
Other highlights: Our own Rose, Donna Michaels won
both First and Second Runner-up in her category. Fabulous!
What’s more, Donna presented with me (along with Debra Holland and Kim
Hornsby). We showed the audience how to
organize and carry off successful book signings. I so enjoyed getting to know Donna (talk
about prolific and seasoned…I learned a ton from her and also enjoyed meeting
her husband).
I hope you’ll submit to InD’Tale and mark your
calendar for next year’s event. I
guarantee we’ll have a ball together!

Well done, Rolynn! And all the other Roses, especially Donna. Anni xx
Congratulations!
Wonderful, Rolynn! Big congratulations to you and Donna! You've inspired me to see if I might be able to swing the conference next year.
How fabulous the Roses are on the move! Congratulations on the wins, ladies. Next year too, huh?? Interesting.
Congratulations to you and thanks for sharing!
How awesome is this? HOW AWESOME IS THIS!!!! I'm so excited and proud for both you and Donna. You've both done the Roses proud. I'll be smiling all day over your awesome achievement. To be recognized for our talent and hard work renews our soul. I'll steal a little of your magic and let it renew mine a tad.
Anni, thank you. DONNA knows stuff. She told me she always leaves one of her books to hotel housekeeping...not only is it a tip for services rendered, but she might gain a new reader! Brilliant!
Angela, thanks for the congrats.
Leah, do try to come! This magazine and conference has got the backs of Indie/small press writers. What I learn from them...priceless! Plus we could have fun together!
Margo, you are right...on the move! Donna has book signing, promo, social media tips that help everyone. She's got dozens of contemporary cowboy and hero books out there. And fans! We have lots to glean from her...and face to face is so much nicer!
Charlotte, thank you. We talk a lot about the angst of publishing. No one knows better how to celebrate the rewards than this InD'Tale crew. Come join us!
Vonnie, thank you for your enthusiastic kudos. I thought of you at the dress-up party...you would have loved it, because you could have shown up as Effie. The writers dress up in their period costumes...and the sweet guys, the cover models pose with them, just for fun. It's a hoot. Michael, the tall one in the picture, looks fabulous in Highlander garb! Anyway, I made lots of friends and I have new energy because of them and you Roses. We mush on!
Wonderful post. Congrats to the winners and runners up. Sounds like a fun conference.
Wonderful post and congratulations, Rolynn! Due to a rough year (husband had two surgeries), I was unable to attend. However, I'll be there next year!
Congratulations to you and Donna, both! Sounds like you had a great time. If I still wrote Indie, I'd jump on board with you guys. What a fun conference!
How absolutely fabulous! Maybe I'll give it a try next year!
Mary, thank you. I'm assuming your husband is on the mend-that's wonderful. Easiest conference to maneuver because the hotel has a shuttle from the Burbank airport that is free and only blocks away from the airport. InD'Tale realizes we have small budgets...they definitely keep costs down. I bought my own coffee and croissant in the a.m., but that's all the food I paid for the whole conference -except for wine, of course
:-)
Janinne, thanks for your congrats. Lots of writers are with small press and big press, so you're could still come!
Brenda, thanks for the praise. You'll find this conference very different from the big RT and RWA. Do consider it!
Congrats, Rolynn (and Donna, too!) I might consider this conference since it's more manageable than RWA. We need to be sure to coordinate with our own Carmel mini-retreat, though. I really hope we can pull that off next year.
Alison, thanks for the for the congrats. I certainly plan on fitting both in next year!
Rolynn, hearty congrats. Having been at an InD'Tale conference with you, I know what kind of fun you get up to! Tomorrow I am off to my Women Writing the West conference and can only hope to match you for networking and enjoyment.
Oh, yay, Andi! I know you'll have fun wherever you go. Now that TJ and Tonya are organizing the event (instead of that weird cover model guy), the conference is coming into its own. Maybe next year I'll see you there! Enjoy yours!
Congrats, Rolynn & Donna. What an interesting post. Glad you had a great time at the conference and shared with us.
Love InD'Tale. I've won a cover contest with them and had a few nice reviews. I've always wanted to go to their conference. Sounds like it was awesome. Congrats, Rolynn, and the other roses. And, my friend Kim Hornsby. Who knows, maybe next year...
Congrats, again, Rolynn!! And thanks for the kudos! Still in shock! It was wonderful hanging out with you, and presenting. I learned a lot, too!
