Weather and Baseball and Television, Oh My! by Alicia Dean

(Sorry. I am going to see Wizard of Oz in IMAX on Tuesday, so I guess I’m in the zone :))

However, the title is related to this post. Those are three of things I love about Autumn. I love the change in weather. I very much dislike Summer and heat and sun, so when the weather cools off and Fall is here, it means Winter is coming soon…which is my favorite season of all.

Another thing I love about Fall is MLB Post-Season. This year, my team (the Cincinnati Reds) is going to the playoffs, and I am so excited! We blew it last year, but I have faith that it won’t happen again.

I also love that my favorite shows premiere in the Fall. It’s been a long hot Summer without them, and I’m anxious to be reunited with old friends. A few of my shows air during the Summer: Dexter (which is ending forever, and I’m afraid I will have to seek counseling to deal with it) and True Blood. But my shows that have either just started or will start soon are New Girl, The Mindy Project, How I Met Your Mother, The Middle, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, and in January, Justified.

But the shows I’m looking MOST forward to are The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, which start October 3rd. I’m such a big fan, I wrote two Vampire Diaries stories for the launch of Amazon’s Kindle Worlds:

Hopefully, you’re not as much of a tv addict as I am (I even watch reruns of Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, etc, etc), because it takes up a lot of time. But, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
What are some of your favorite shows—new and old?

With that list, I'm wondering how you get anything done! LOL I know you do more than most too, so you must have given up sleeping. I'm a Castle and a Mentalist fan. Then there's Reality TV, which is conspicuously absent from your list - Survivor, The Bachelor, and The Voice are my go to shows. Nope, I don't sleep much either!

I guess I'm slowing down. I don't follow the new releases like I used to. I go to sleep early and wait for the reruns.

We watch very little commercial TV, sticking mainly to PBS for their documentaries and scrolling the listings on Netflix for anything we haven't already seen. However, we do love sports so I'm thrilled with both collegiate and pro football games.

Ha, Jannine. I'm amazed I get anything done too, but I use watching tv as my unwinding time. I dislike reality shows...a lot. Except I do like The Voice, but I did forget to mention it. Honestly, I just like it during the blind auditions because Blake and Adam are so adorable, and I'm always curious to hear the talent and who turns their chair. After that part is over, I pretty much lose interest unless there is a particular singer I'm enthralled with. Like Tony Lucca of a few seasons ago, who was sent home way too soon!

Barbara, I would love to got to bed early, but I can't seem to make it most nights. :-)

Vonnie, I totally get the sports thing. I also like Netflix, but I don't watch PBS. I would probably be a little more intelligent if I did, but I like mindless entertainment. :)

I can barely manage to watch news programmes nowadays, but in all honesty I'd rather read! I'm guessing you don't need much sleep of a night.

Anything we watch in our house is from DVR... never live even if we watch it the same evening we'll wait until its half over so no commercials. Anyway, I watch a few shows with my girls. They believe I enjoy their shows as much as my own... I guess I am good at "faking it". The one show I watch for myself I watch alone. That's Downton Abbey. I don't believe the next season is scheduled to release in the states until January (sad)

Great post Alicia :) I absolutely LOVE the SyFy series, Faceoff! It is the only show I NEVER miss. The contestants compete against one another by creating monster/creature makeup in a chosen theme. Contestants are judged by award-winning special effects artists. I am fascinated by the level of creativity the participants pump out every week. Watching creative people do what they love, and what they do best inspires me to create also--but I use the blank page as my canvas, not the blank face ;)

Yes, Nancy, I understand the lack of time thing. But I have discovered that I'm pretty useless, creatively, in the evenings after eight hours at the day job, so I usually only manage to get a small amount of writing or editing done, and the rest of the evening is my 'down time' although I often watch tv with my laptop and work as I'm watching. I always look forward to chilling in front of the TV :)

Oh me too, Emmly. I always watch on DVR. Mine stays almost full all the time. :-) I have no patience with commercials anymore.

Hmmm, Anna. You've mentioned that show to me before. Maybe I should check it out. Yes, I guess we are similar in that way. All artists, when you think about it, start with a blank canvas. Cool!

You're AMAZING! Now how many hours in your day?

I love TV. I can watch just about anything but now that hubby is retired, my life is changing 110%. Yeah, that much!

I love romantic comedies, but also--NCIS, Castle, The Mentalist, Unforgettable and have recently got hooked on Longmire. I also LOVE Project Runway. Go figure... I can't even sew but every season I'm glued to Tim Gunn. :)

I'm not into reality shows, but I do like NCIS and Saturday Night Live (even though in my humble opinion it's not as good as it was years ago) Frankly, I'm still in mourning for Buffy even this many years after it went off the air. I'm also something of a political junkie, so some of the programs I favor would probably put you to sleep, Alicia,if you watched them. Come to think of it, that may be just what you need in order to get a little rest from the 800 hours you must spend working every day. As to seasons, fall is my favorite. I love the slight coolness in the air when you can take a good brisk walk and feel energized. Summer I usually can live without and winter could be okay as long as it isn't filled with snow and 30-degree temperatures, as is being predicted this winter for the east coast. Aargh, which reminds me, gotta go out soon and get some new boots. Sigh!

I'm definitely not one for the heat and sun, either. I love fall! Winter is fun, so long as I don't have to drive anywhere. And once February comes, I've had enough, as everything starts to look dirty.

Love to check out the new shows and returning ones as well. So many to choose from. :)

All the best, Alicia!

One thing I love about Fall is baking things like pumpkin bread or apple dumplings, and moving from primarily food cooked on the grill to soups and chilis, etc. I'm also looking forward to Supernatural starting again and The Walking Dead. Fun post!

Jess, I've never watched NCIS, but I think it is a show I would love. I've watched Castle but didn't stick with it. I'm not sure why. :)

Well, I don't get any extra hours in my day, but I try to be productive on weekends and a little while I'm watching tv.

Hi Darcy, I LOVE SNL. You're right, not as good as it used to be. But, in my opinion, the early years were not as good as the years with Chris Farley and David Spade and Norm McDonald, and that whole cast. I know the original cast gets the credit for being 'the best' but I preferred it in the era a bit later. Thanks for stopping by!

Alicia Dean said...

Hi Jessica...another fall/winter girl, huh? :-) Yes, I love being snowed in and staying in my PJ's and writing and editing and watching tv. Here in Oklahoma, that doesn't happen very often, but once in a while we're blessed with a blizzard. Best to you!

Alicia Dean said...

Ah, yes, MJ. I love the comfort food of Fall and Winter. I've watched a few episodes of Supernatural, and plan to pick it back up one of these days, but I've started quite a few series I haven't gotten caught up on; Shameless, American Horror Story, Pretty Little Liars, Homeland, Sons of Anarchy, GEEZ, I need to step up my tv watching game, LOL. I have wanted to watch The Walking Dead. I hear great things about it. One of these days...

Thanks for coming by to visit!

I love fall with its moderate temps--most of the time. Love baseball playoffs. Go Tigers. Most of all I love the new seasons of my fav TV shows: NCIS, Castle, Hawaii 5-0, Person of Interest. Can't wait for the new Robin Williams' show.

Nice post. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I just love all the trees changing colors, Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I also love the fact that all the new shows are coming to a small screen near you! LOL!

Thanks for stopping by, Diane and Lynn. Yes...looking forward to Autumn truly getting here. Diane, looks like your Tigers will clinch a their division soon. I am pulling for the Royals to get a Wild Card spot but hope is dwindling. :)
