Writing Hot Scenes - and Giving Away a Book!

Laura Breck
I have the privilege of leading a workshop on Writing Sexy Sex Scenes next spring at the Wisconsin RWA's Write Touch Conference in Oconomowoc, WI at the beautiful Olympia Resort and Conference Center. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 31 - Sunday, June 2 and watch for more details coming soon on the WisRWA website

Writing a story that makes a reader want to melt and shiver all at the same time takes some planning and some strategically placed emotions and sensual description.

Starting out with a lot of sexual tension is important. We want to feel the electricity zinging between our characters from the second they meet.

Then there's the bedroom scene, broken down into the 'warm up' and the 'really fun part.' This is where you'll add tons of sensual description.

After glow is important, too. Too short of a cuddling period and a reader will feel slighted.

There are lots of ways for writers to heat up the story. There's internal monologue as well as dialogue between the characters. What they think and what they say can freeze a room, or make it so hot, clothing isn't necessary.

Emotions make the characters real, and make us want to know them better. Sensual description ramps up the tension between them and makes us a little too warm for our own clothes.

Do you enjoy a steamy bedroom scene? Or do you prefer your books with a lot of sexual tension and no undercover descriptions? I'd love for you to read Dancing in a Hurricane. Leave a comment for a chance to win an ecopy!
Have a great day!

Go, Laura! I have to admit writing bedroom scenes isn't my favorite part of writing romance. I always feel like a Peeping Tom! Hope your workshop is a huge success.

Laura, thanks for pointing out that it isn't me. As I read, I often miss the afterglow warm and fuzzy feelings. Writers don't often dwell much on that, which is surprising since in real life, it is often a very special bonding time, even for us older married folks. I love my snuggle time. Great post. I've read your DANCING IN A HURRICANE and loved it.
