We'll
post the stories during the month of December, and in January, we'll create a
book from them which you can download free.
We need
your help, though. To add a fun challenge for us, each of our stories will start out with the same first line,
and you get to choose which one we use!
Here
are the first line ideas:
1) She
had just one wish for the holidays.
2) So
much for her first holiday vacation in years now that the airport she
practically broke her neck to get to was shut down.
3) The
black boots quivered and twitched before disappearing completely beneath the
towering noble fir.
4) Two
surprises greeted her when she opened her front door that morning: a foot of
pristine snow and a wrapped package on her doorstep.
5) Was
it bad luck to find dead mistletoe on your doorstep?
6) She
watched in surprise as the man in the Santa suit pulled a badge out of his red
fur bag, and flashed it at…her?
7) What
was it about the holidays that made normally sane people lose their minds?
8) Why
did the past twenty-four hours feel more like twenty-four days?
Thank
you!

Wow, what a fun idea! They're all great, but I like #5 best (Was it bad luck to find mistletoe on your doorstep?). I think it's generic enough in tone and even content to let each author take it and make it her own. Plus, it's a great hook that makes me want to read more.
Thanks for the opportunity to vote! I'll be watching for the stories, no matter what opening line you choose!
These are all great. I can't pick just one so:
#5 is my first pick
#7 is my second
Can't wait to see which one wins but I don't envy you.
You're right. It is tough to choose. #2 (closed airport) is my choice.
I like 6, 5, 7, and 1 in that order. Well done!
They're all fun, but I like number 1 best for starting each story.
Some of these kind of lock you into a particular theme. I'd like to see variety. For me-the holidays are when wishes should come true.
I vote for #1
Thanks for stopping by, ladies. Keep those votes coming!
One or five - short and sweet with lots of potential. Send out the results now - don't leave us guessing.
4, 1, and 5 in that order. All good options, as the others have stated. Can't wait to find out the winning number.
I like number 5. It's right up my alley. :-) Very intriguing. This is a fun idea! Makes me anxious for Christmas.
I like #1. It is clean, crisp, and promises something.
I'll look forward to your December blogs.
Romantic suspense for me! I chose "She watched in surprise as the man in the Santa suit pulled a badge out of his red fur bag, and flashed it at…her?" Looking forward to your stories!

Hmmm, 1 and 5 are neck and neck...
It's not nice thinking about snow :) but a great idea. This is my fav:
6) She watched in surprise as the man in the Santa suit pulled a badge out of his red fur bag, and flashed it at…her?
#1!
I'd like to see what comes out with #6.
Fun idea! I like #1 and #4.
5 intrigues me.
I say # 4 or #5!
Number Seven.

These are all terrific but I prefer #3. And second is #6. Have fun choosing!
