Hidden Secrets ~ Coming Soon to a Bookstore Near You! by Jannine Gallant

NOVEMBER 27TH is a big day--for me, anyway. HIDDEN SECRETS releases! This is the final book in my Siren Cove series and the last chance to see one of my books on the shelves of bookstores across the country. And in Walmart! Maybe sometime in the future I'll get another mass market contract. Maybe not. Just in case this is it, I'm hoping all of you will take a photo in a store with my book (yes, I want to see you in the picture, too). After the big day, I'll put something up on Facebook where you can post them. I mean, you'll be out there Christmas shopping, anyway, right? So mosey over to the romance books, find my baby, and snap a picture. There just may be a prize in it for you! And if you want to buy the book while you're there, even better. LOL

HIDDEN SECRETS is actually getting nothing but great reviews (knock on wood) on NetGalley. Since I've had some bad experiences with trolls there, this is pretty remarkable. Or maybe my book is just that wonderful! (I'm joking! Sort of...) Here's one I particularly liked from Kim V.

"You know it's coming, there's nothing you can do about it though. Yelling at the book doesn't help either. Ugh! Hidden Secrets, is such a great book. Many suspects kept me guessing."

That's the kind of visceral response you want from a reader! Here's a short excerpt from my villain's point of view, so you can see what got the reviewer so worked up.

With the wind flapping the tarp, he spread the square of plastic out beside the dead woman and rolled her body into the center. Long, brown hair tangled across her face, which was as white as her dress had once been. Now, the clinging material was caked with damp sand and stained a dark red.
This time, he’d used a knife to slice across the throat. He wasn’t particular about his weapons. Any sharp object that would get the job done, or a blunt one for that matter, was acceptable. Whatever was handy. The satisfaction came in watching the life force fade away, not in the method he used.
A psychiatrist would probably have a field day analyzing him.
He rolled up the bundle and secured it with a rope, then hauled away more of the sand that had been stained beneath her body. It was pushing seven before he finally finished. Gathering up the cleaning materials, shovel, and buckets, he shoved them in his pack with the flashlight and took a long look around. Nothing but pristine beach for as far as he could see. Except for the bulky package. After shrugging on the pack, he heaved the tarp-wrapped body over his shoulder and thanked God she was light. He’d ditch the last of the evidence somewhere a rushing creek wouldn’t expose bare bones in the future. He was too smart to make the same mistake twice.
In an hour, the job would be finished . . . until the next time.

If you're wondering what happened to the romance in this book, don't worry. There's a really sweet friends to lovers trope that plays out over the course of the book. In fact, here's a sample.

Why the hell did he kiss me?
After quietly closing the door behind her, she leaned against it and simply breathed. The kiss was no big deal. A spur of the moment impulse. It wasn’t like a single random kiss—even if it involved tongue—was going to ruin their friendship and make things awkward between them.
Was it?
She stripped off her clothes and dropped them into the hamper, then put on a pair of soft cotton shorts and a tank top, along with her fleece robe. She’d scurried into the bathroom and was scrubbing the enamel off her teeth when a knock sounded on the door.
“What?” she yelled through a mouthful of toothpaste.
“Are you okay?”
She spat in the sink. “Of course.”
“Can I come in?”
She thought about it for a moment. “Sure. Join the party.”
He pushed open the door and gave her a cautious smile. “You left abruptly.”
“You were on the phone.” Maybe if she didn’t mention the kiss that had rocked her world, he wouldn’t either.
“It was Blaze. That woman doesn’t give up. She wants to come down here.”
“And?” Paige rinsed out her mouth.
“What do you mean, and? I told her no way. I tried to be nice . . .”
“Maybe that’s the problem. Nice is overrated.”
“So, I shouldn’t be nice and apologize for losing my mind and kissing you?”
There it is. He just couldn’t leave well enough alone.
She decided to go for the direct approach. “Why did you?”
“You literally fell in my lap. Gut reflex when confronted with soft lips and even softer curves. I’m only human, and you were sitting on my—”
“Stop!” She held up a hand. “I’m taking my soft everything and going to bed. Feel free to shower. Cold is to the right.”
He laid a hand on her arm as she brushed past. “It was an excellent kiss.”
“I do most things well. Good night, Quentin.”
“Night, Paige.”
Minutes later, she lay in bed, not even close to sleep, while the water ran in the bathroom. Maybe he was taking a cold shower. Maybe the kiss had been all about hormones and the fact that Quentin currently wasn’t getting any.
They’d been friends their entire lives. Best friends. She didn’t want to screw that up with sex. Knowing Quentin’s track record in excruciating detail, a romantic relationship between them wouldn’t last since he obviously didn’t want anything long term. She wouldn’t let herself even think about the possibility. Instead, they would go back to what they’d always cherished. Friendship, pure and simple.
And maybe a little lonely.

Hopefully, you're intrigued by now. If you want the digital version instead of waiting for that trip to your local Barnes & Noble or Walmart, pre-order your copy on Amazon. We'll be deep into the first of our Christmas stories on release day (that's Nov. 27th folks!), and I hope you'll all join us for a month of terrific free reads. Visit my WEBSITE for future updates on my writing career, or follow me on Facebook. Happy reading!

Almost There by Barbara Edwards

The end is  in sight. My manuscript is in the hands of the editors and I am doing corrections. In a lot of ways this is the best part of writing. Someone else is reading it. Letting me know if something works or doesn’t.

This is also the time when I check that I have enough clues sprinkled through the story so the reader isn’t surprised by the surprise ending. I like this part. I go AHA! that’s exactly what I meant.

Another big surprise is that the publisher is changing the cover art. Hmm. Although I liked the first effort, the one they showed me today is really beautiful.

I wish I could show it to you today, but not until its accepted by the committee. Same with a tantalizing excerpt. I have several scenes in mind.

By Reservation Only will be a September release from The Wild Rose Press. I’ll give you more information as I get it.

Lost Innocence out in the World by Jannine Gallant

Graphic created by our own Alison Henderson!

I've had a busy week. LOST INNOCENCE released last Tuesday. To me, it felt like this book has been on the market forever (probably since I've written two more books since this one), but only for pre-order. Now you can actually read it. Yay! Here's the link to Amazon. Hint. Hint. Reviews are welcome! I got a bunch from NetGalley, but they haven't put them up on Amazon. The good news is everyone seems to like it.

I also had a BookBub ad for EVERY MOVE SHE MAKES on the same day. The magic of BookBub is a wondrous thing. I got down to #117 in overall rankings on Amazon before it started moving up again. I'm still hanging in the #5000 range a week later. The other two books in that series are selling well, too. Yippee!

But back to LOST INNOCENCE... My mom found copies in her local Walmart! I know it's out in Barnes & Noble, but BURIED TRUTH was not picked up by Walmart when it released last February. If you happen to wander into your local Walmart, can you let me know if you see LOST INNOCENCE there (or in any other store)? Photos are welcome! If distribution is widespread, that's a whole lot more venues to sell my paperback books.

I also had a birthday yesterday. 56! Boy, do I feel old. I took stock of my life and writing career and felt pretty good about where I am. Other than the gray hair and extra pounds--I could do without those! The positives are I live in Tahoe. You can't beat that. My husband and I had no issues adjusting to our empty-nester status. The girls are both thriving at college. I have books in actual bookstores! I wasn't certain that would ever happen. I can't complain.

I'm still waiting for word back from my publisher on my next series. But we all need a little suspense in our lives, right? How about you? Any good news to share? To check out all my books, visit my website. Happy reading!

Over the finish line by Barbara Edwards

After watching Justify win the Triple Crown I couldn't resist the comparison. I'm into the final stretch on my manuscript. I need to write the last chapter and I can submit it to my publisher. I sent my editor a couple updates so she'd be ready.

I'm so excited.

The plan is to do the edits and have the book ready to publish on Labor Day weekend. I can tell you to look for my name and new release, but I haven't given it a name yet.
Oh my. lots of suggestions are dancing through my head. (picture sugarplums) and I can't decide. when I do I will let you know.

I can give you a few hints. My manuscript is set in Vermont. I have a handsome hero (no surprise) with conflicts. Hmmm
In the last chapter I have to wind up all the loose threads.

Working like this has been good for me. I plan to keep going with the amount of words daily.  Only they will be in the other works I put aside to do this. I'll keep you informed of my progress. And the name when I find it.

Please follow, friend or like me. I love to hear from my readers.

New Release - Undercover Nanny by Alison Henderson

Yippee! I have a new release!! UNDERCOVER NANNY is here!!!

There were many times over the past eighteen months when I didn't think I'd be able to say that. As I told Jannine last week, sometimes it takes a village, and let me tell you, this book took a village and then some. I needed--and received--more help with this one than anything I've ever written. Happily, the end result is something I think we can all be proud of.

When I asked for input on the blurb, many of you responded with suggestions. If you look closely, you may see a few of your own words in the final version.

BLURB:
Kidnapping. Extortion. Antiquities smuggling. Add one light-fingered, bad-tempered monkey, and it’s all in a day’s work for novice bodyguard Casey Callahan when she’s hired to protect the five-year-old niece of a handsome archaeology professor.

Alec Bainbridge has been balancing excavation and teaching duties with single parenthood since the death of his sister. When a stranger attempts to kidnap his niece, he hires a bodyguard to pose as the little girl’s nanny. However, the young woman who shows up is a far cry from the matronly type he was expecting.

Amid break-ins, anonymous threats, and arson, Casey and Alec race to identify the villains before they harm the child or make off with a priceless Egyptian artifact. All the while, their mutual attraction complicates an already volatile situation. With an innocent child’s life at stake, Casey and Alec risk everything to solve the mystery before their growing feelings become the final casualty.

Balthazar, the monkey, was one of my all-time favorite characters to write and plays an important role in the story. Have you heard the old show business warning against working with children or animals because they'll always upstage you? Well, UNDERCOVER NANNY has both, and this short excerpt gives you a taste:

Alec climbed the two flights of stairs to the playroom, where he found Grace and Balthazar playing her current favorite make-believe—Jungle Adventurer. Grace was wearing her pith helmet, while the monkey sported his veiled pink princess hat.
“He’s a giant gorilla who’s rescuing the hippo from the flooded river.” She pointed at her stuffed hippo, who was wrapped in an old blue bath towel.
Alec gave a mental shrug. After the kind of day he’d had, he could see no reason why a heroic giant gorilla shouldn’t wear a conical pink princess hat.

Like the first two books in this series, UNDERCOVER NANNY mixes a healthy dose of heart-warming emotion and humor with the suspense. I just hope readers will enjoy it as much as the others.

My Book Is Out...Now What? by Jannine Gallant

BURIED TRUTH is now available for the world to read!!

That's what I feel like I've been doing for the last day or so... shouting BUY MY BOOK. I swear, it seems like we wait forever for each new release to hit the shelves, virtual or otherwise. I've been talking about my latest baby for months now, until I fear everyone is sick to death of hearing about it. The big day finally arrives and I make the announcement on social media with as much hoopla as I can muster. My friends congratulate me, and I feel special... accomplished. Heck, my husband even suggested we go out to dinner to celebrate. Then what? Day two rolls around, and I'm feeling a little anticlimactic.

Part of the problem is nerves, wondering if my book will sell and if people will like it. As I stalk my rankings every hour or so on Amazon, hoping for a dip to indicate a sale, I feel like I should be doing more. More to get reviews. More to spread the word. More to generate those sales. Except I'm tired of shouting BUY MY BOOK. I feel like I've told everyone it's available, and now it's a waiting game to see what happens. I also feel like I know what doesn't work. Blog tours. Even my publisher has given up arranging them. They cost money and produce zero results, so why bother? I post here and on Just Romantic Suspense (my post will be up there tomorrow with a prize). They do get decent traffic, so I feel like that's enough blogging.

That leaves social media, and I feel like I've beaten that horse to death... at least for the moment. So, I'll try to give my friends on Facebook a short break. My plan is to sit back and take a breather to see what my publisher does to spark interest. BURIED TRUTH will be included in a Kensington roundup of suspense/thriller authors, most of whom are far better known than me, in February on their social media sites. I'll jump back on the bandwagon to do my part when they start promoting.

So, if you're an author, what do you do after a new book releases? Do you run around shouting BUY MY BOOK, or do you sit back and let nature take its course? Have you had success with a particular venue? If you're a reader, where do you find out about new releases? We want your insights!

In case you still haven't picked up your copy of BURIED TRUTH, here are the links: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, Kobo. Or visit my WEBSITE. Happy reading!

#releaseday then, Release Day now

I've been published for about 10 years now. My first 5 books came out in 2007, and book #30 comes out next week.

Oh, I remember those first few releases. OMG, I was all over the Internet, talking about my book(s). It wasn't so much "buy me, buy me" but "I HAVE A PUBLISHED BOOK PEOPLE!" I posted excerpts, I did interviews, I was everywhere I could find a spot to talk about my books.

Back then, books came out in e-format then came out in print later. Most people (back then) pooh-poohed ebooks. "When does the real book come out?" I'd be asked. I had an ebook reader long before the Kindle came out (anybody remember the Rocket Ebook Reader?) I knew that ebooks were the wave of the future. I adored being in electronic as well as "real" print, no matter what people say.

Today -- it's a different story. I do some online interviews, I do post excerpts here and there, and mainly I announce, "Hey, guys: another great book by me." It's not that I've lost the sense of wonder that I HAVE A PUBLISHED BOOK. That wonder never goes away. But I'm aware that there are a lot of people out there shouting about their books, and this is a marathon, not a sprint. I'll be talking about this book for a long time to come, so I can save the shouting.

Okay, here's a bit of shouting: BOOK #30 comes out NEXT WEEK! You can read all about it on my book page right here. This is another Remembered Classics book, in which I take a tale you well remember (Peter Pan, in this case) and I rework the characters. This book stars Wendy, T. K. Bell, and, of course, Peter.

Yeah, it's still fun to shout  ☺

Mr. OH by Mrs. She Did It Again

By Vonnie Davis

Today is the release date for Mr. OH from the Wilder Roses of The Wild Rose Press. My first attempt at writing erotic. Yeah, I tried something new again. I just can’t seem to find one sub-genre of romance and stick to it. Maybe I have ADD. Who knows.

This is the first book of a series of three Harvard grads who’ve kept in touch over the years. Mr. OH—Blake O’Hearn—is a shipping magnate, a workaholic, a loner who secretly takes care of his employees, and a Dom. I’m happy the book releases this year since I turn seventy in May. I mean, what business does a seventy-year-old woman have writing erotic? And is the book truly erotic? The line is so thin, a few word changes or additional subject matter, and I was there.

Blake isn’t used to being touched unless he gives permission. Jazz is a free spirit who can’t resist touching everyone with her humor, her spirit, and her love for humanity. Her Aunt Gemma serves Sunday brunch every week for her little extended family and Blake is at a loss for words…

We were almost out of breath when we rushed into Aunt Gem’s house. To say the least, we were both glowing with sexual satisfaction and quick, hot showers. Scrumptious odors of bacon, eggs, monkey bread, quiche, and friedcinnamon apples greeted us as soon as we opened the door. No one knocked at Aunt Gemma’s. We just yelled, “Home, Momma,” whether we were her children, or not.
My cousins Zen and Dex carried platters and bowls to the dining room table. Aunt Gemma, her salt and pepper hair in damp ringlets around her face, approached with arms opened wide. “Here’s my little girl.” She grabbed my hands and held them out. “Look, you’re wearing the purple floral sundress I bought you last summer.” She snapped the purple stretch belt. “I knew this would emphasize your small waist.”
Aunt Gem smiled at Blake. “Did she tell you she’s my favorite niece and not just because she was named after me?” She placed her fingers on my face and tweaked my cheeks while I covered my neck nonchalantly. “My sister gave Jazmin my middle name…Colleen. I’m Gemma Colleen, but everyone calls me Gemma or Momma Gem.” She pointed at him. “Your cheeks are next. Bring your tall self here and lean over for a little pinch. Whew, I thought my boys were tall, but you’re in the clouds somewhere.”
It was a good thing I’d shifted behind him as he approached her or I’d have missed the blush that crept up his neck.
“Ah…I don’t think I’ve ever had my cheeks tweaked, ma’am.” His hands rose in a stop gesture to Aunt Gemma. “Really, there’s no need to touch my face.”
“Nonsense. If you’re going to be one of mine, expect a little cheek pinching when you come here, Blake.”
“I pinched his cheeks this morning, Aunt Gem.” I leaned over and kissed both of my cousins whose shoulders were shaking in silent laughter.
“Smartass,” Zen quipped.
Aunt Gemma hooked her arm in Blake’s and escorted the scowl-master to the dining room covered with family pictures. “I’m honored to have a celebrity in my home. An Olympian. Imagine.”
Zen and Dex froze in place, staring at Blake. “An Olympian?” both chimed in unison.
“I’ve got the champagne on ice and opened. Make the mimosas would you, Jazz? Dex made them last Sunday and all we got was a bubble of champagne.” Aunt Gemma kissed Blake’s cheek before showing him to his chair next to Zen. “Zen and Dex, you two young pups don’t think I’d let our girl date a guy without checking him out online, do you? Our Blake was an Olympian swimmer in Athens. Two golds and one silver. I’ll get the coffeepot.”
She charged for the kitchen, then stopped in the wide doorway between the two rooms. “If only I’d checked out Logan online before she got mixed up with that nitwit. But I hadn’t taken the ‘Internet for Seniors’ class at the senior center yet. I wasn’t very tech savvy then.”
“Tech savvy?”Dex piped up. “Is that why you text me every day for your passwords?”
She returned with the coffeepot. “Huh, at least I know what to do with a password.”
The front door opened. “Home, Momma!” Amy yelled, her hands over her cheeks.
“Smart girl,” Blake said. “I’d heard of cheek pinchers, but I didn’t think they existed. Not really.” His cheeks still bloomed a pretty shade of pink.
Both of my cousins glanced at my neck as I set their mimosas in front of them and my hand rose to cover the mark.
Aunt Gem rushed to Amy. “Give me those cheeks and stop hiding them. I haven’t seen you all week.”
“Aw, Gemma, won’t a kiss work?”
“First a tweak, then a kiss. You’re sitting beside Dex today.”
Zen frowned at his brother and then Blake as if he’d just now realized he’d taken the seat next to him Zen usually reserved for Amy.
“Zen,” I stood behind him and whispered, “You need to start talking to Amy.”
“I talk.” His hands fisted on the table. He was going to be stubborn.
“Romantically.” I pointedly looked at my best friend in her favorite ivory capris and a low-cut black sweater adorned with ivory and green frogs. “She deserves to hear some sweet words from you. She’s cared about you for a long time. Grow a pair and man up. Aunt Gem, where do you want me to sit? At the end, opposite you?”
“Yes, dear.” She gasped, her gaze quickly jumping from my neck to the table as if she was checking to see if she’d forgotten anything.
Amy hugged me on her way to her chair. “Morning, girlfriend. Wow, look at that huge suck mark on your neck!” I groaned. Trust Amy to march up to the elephant in the room and smack it on the ass.
“You look extra pretty today, Amy.” All heads swiveled to a blushing Zen, who stared in his mimosa glass as if he was checking to see if the champagne and orange juice had mixed properly. I was proud of him; he’d tried. I hoped Amy would know how much it had cost him to voice the compliment.
Amy stepped behind Blake and tapped his shoulder. “You, neck-sucker, move. You’re in my seat. No one sits beside Zen, but moi.”

Excerpt from COLD HEARTED VAMPIRE

Excerpt from Cold Hearted Vampire. Ebook is available for preorder now at Amazon: http://amzn.to/2uMDy0A
Paperback and ebook availabe at all online book outlets  9/6/17

                                       ****

He’d just had sex, twice now, with a vampire.
Been inside the living undead. Even as the idea boggled his mind, he found he only wanted a chance to do it again.

Because, vampire or not, he had feelings for the lovely and cool Dr. Michaela. From their first kiss, he’d known there was something about her. Something that drew him in. Not just animal magnetism, but the almost indiscernible vulnerability he’d glimpsed in her eyes. Anyone who thought her cold and unfeeling had obviously never looked below the surface—or had her in the sack.

She was open in her lovemaking. Kept nothing hidden, and it made him wonder why she considered it so necessary to keep her passionate side hidden the rest of the time.
The front door suddenly slammed open. Hitting hard against Seth’s hip and almost knocking Michaela off of him. Their private time ended as three men clambered through the broken door.

Seth instinctively reached for a weapon that wasn’t there.

“Dad!” Michaela squealed and everything inside him froze solid as ice. Scrambling off Seth’s body, giving a flashing view of that lovely backside, she attempted to use his body as a shield.

Even as he sat up straight, she was tugging at him and cowering behind his back.
Catching the look of pure venom in Andris Blautsauger’s eyes, Seth slapped a hand to his forehead and groaned.

Things were about to get really ugly.
