Spring in the Woods by Jannine Gallant

My favorite part of the day is walking in the woods with Ginger. Right now, the wildflowers are beginning to bloom. After a winter of no snow in Tahoe, they're out early and probably won't last long, but I'm enjoying them while they're here. I hope you will, too!

This purple ground cover is super pretty, and grows like crazy. I'd love to transfer it to my yard, but I'm not a gardener by any stretch of the imagination!

More snow plants than I've ever seen before this year. Not sure why since we didn't have much snow. This one's a king-daddy, though it's hard to tell how big it is from the picture.

The lupine are just beginning to bloom.

Someone told me these bushes are service berries. They flower in white masses. Super pretty!

I'm not sure what these are. They look like big daisies. But I thought this was a neat photo.

Okay, not a flower. This little guy visited me at the boat ramp the other morning when I was working. Couldn't resist sharing him!

Ginger trying to cross the creek without getting her paws wet at the end of our walk. She fell in. Really funny, but I missed the shot!

This is the final week Every Move She Makes will be on sale for 99 cents. A lot of the action happens in the woods around Lake Tahoe. My characters also enjoy this wild scenery. You can purchase your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Kobo.

I also updated my website. Tell me what you think!

  1. Some nice pictures. Sometimes the windflowers are prettier than the domestic ones. I have a ton of day lilies in my side yard. Planted them once a few years ago and they've flourished ever since. I'm no gardener either, so I depend a lot on Mother Nature. I was waiting for a picture of Ginger.

  3. Thanks, Margo. Outside watering isn't encouraged in CA because of our drought conditions. Just one more reason to let the yard go natural with only thimbleberry bushes and Ginger's stick collection to liven it up and enjoy the natural beauty in the forest.

  5. Ooh! I love your photos!! I'd never seen (or heard of) snow plants before your earlier photo - very dramatic. The good thing about not being a gardener is that you're not tempted to try to bring these plants home. They're much happier where they are, and you can enjoy them without all the work. Now I'm off to check out your new website.

  6. Ally, I do my best plotting while I'm in the woods!

Thanks, Alison. You're right. Transplanting never works!

  7. Thanks for the pics, Jannine. Fun to see where you roam...with Ginger. Was expecting a bear or a fox to pop out...ever happen? Excellent inspiration, those woods of yours. One of my friends got a dog specifically to make him (the dog owner) take walks for exercise. Ginger fits that role for you, too!

  8. Rolynn, we see bears now and then. Yep, Ginger keeps me walking even when the weather is crappy. Dogs definitely have their uses!

  9. What a lovely post. I'm envious of where you live. But we bloom or weed wherever we're planted. I'm more the weedy variety. Poor Ginger, falling in the water. I can write poor Ginger, but in reality I'd have been laughing.

  10. It was pretty funny, Vonnie. Ginger came up all embarrassed. I'm definitely a "woods" girl. I'm afraid I wouldn't flourish in a city!

  11. Pretty flowers, Jannine! That pink one is what?? A king daddy? (Is that the name? You KNOW how stupid I am with plants.) Anyway, it's so interesting!

You ladies are inspiring me to go for a walk and get myself some nature. :-)
