It was fun having my hero compete with a five pound dog. LOL

I've done than so many times, Rolynn. Forgotten all about the dog then had to go back to write him or her in. As for a character arc...really? I'd say the human character's arc in response to the dog is the key, not how the dog changes! And, no, I can't imagine not liking dogs. But in my current WIP, I have a dog AND a cat, just to keep the cat lovers out there happy.Jannine Gallanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01047728297429025804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9023937099212820339.post-6933079309312065432016-10-18T10:54:06.110-04:002016-10-18T10:54:06.110-04:00Yes, dogs can be foils, show a softer side to a hu...Yes, dogs can be foils, show a softer side to a human, and help with plot development, too. My editor made me find 'reason' to place a dog in my funeral planner series...my Scottie had to have an arc, too...over the three books. Aargh! You are brave to put dogs in your books, Jannine. For one thing, I keep forgetting where they are and whether or not they've been feed/walked/let out. For another thing, one of my Beta readers, who doesn't like dogs, thought I wasted time/words on the animal. Can you imagine...people who don't like dogs? You're reminding me that every choice we make in writing a novel, has a bigger effect than we think!Rolynn Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09504770204968969467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9023937099212820339.post-47956227473019369192016-10-18T10:52:56.270-04:002016-10-18T10:52:56.270-04:00I loved the excerpt and the hero's reaction to...I loved the excerpt and the hero's reaction to suddenly being pushed into the background by a tiny pup.
