I'm a writer with nothing to say by Vonnie Davis

Hello again! I'm supposed to be writing a blog. Instead I'm looking at George Clooney being interviewed by David Letterman. And I haven't a thing to say.

My last two posts were about losing Calvin and I hate getting into a "pity me" rut. So, I've been trying to come up with something profound to say. If any idea would pop into my head, I'd be most grateful.

But it ain't happening.

Heck, I can't even talk about writing, With a thousand or so words dripping out of my brain since before Easter, I don't have much to share on that front. Creativity has left me and I'm simply taking some time away from my craft.

I'd tell you about my sweet five-pound Shih Tzu, Evie. I bought her because the house was too empty and quiet. So, I communicate with her a lot. The only problem with that is whenever I talk on the phone, she thinks I'm speaking to her and she replies with growls and yips and shrill barking. My tan and white little girl has the breed prevalent overbite, which is the same as saying she has a grill like an old Buick.

Sometimes my eyes get to be a real issue. I've come to the conclusion that writing with my laptop on my thighs--as I've done since I wrote my first book--is putting a strain on my eyes. I can write elsewhere and my eyes are fine. So I decided to take Calvin's den and turn it into a writing space, sitting in the same area he had his desk. The room was painted yesterday. Three walls are now tan and there's an accent wall of Precious Ruby, or hellacious red. My new desk and bookshelves arrive on Tuesday. Then organization and decoration of the room begins. I still want to keep some things Calvin had on the walls, yet a large picture of cream and red flowers will dominate the room.

I'm trying to create a productive workspace for me and a napping spot for Evie.

But I'm afraid I have nothing to say. No words of writing wisdom to share. Well...hold on...

See, you had plenty to say. And all of it relevant and entertaining. Evie is adorable, too.

Vonnie, Like Margo said, even with "nothing to say," you said plenty. The redone writing space sounds wonderful, and I have a feeling Calvin's spirit will be with you, cheering you on, when you're ready to sit down and use it. I wouldn't try to force myself to work on your current stories at first. I'd just start writing, and whatever comes out, comes out. Kind of like this blog post. :-)

I agree with Leah...just write. Often, when we think we have nothing to say that "nothing" turns into "something."

Love your cute little doggie! And the red wall. When you're ready, you'll write. I'm sure you'll find a new routine that suits you. Just don't forget to feed Evie once you get back in the zone. LOL

Thanks, Margo. Evie is pretty sweet.

Leah, I am so eager to get the writing room done and sit in his spot to let the stories flow. I think it'll be much better for my eyes.

Oh, I hope you're right, Angela. Thanks for stopping by.

Forget to feed or water Evie? Not the way she barks when her bowls are empty. She can be quite vocal in her wishes. Six o'clock, it's time for the news and her chewy bone. Nine o'clock is treat time. Bedtime is when she licks all over mom's before finally settling at the back of my legs.

The dog is precious. I bet your new writing space will be inspirational. Love the colors. Keep on keeping on.

You are living proof of the quote you provided: ...you keep on writing anyway. A thread on 'the cost of writing' is playing out on the PAN loop...astonishing is the toll on writers physically, mentally and financially, yet we do keep on writing. I have the feeling we're in a writers' recession (marketing). We're all struggling with how to climb out of this dark no-sales hole. Our power is: we can and will mush on because we do have control over our writing. And Vonnie, creating just the right environment for writing is key...good job!

It sounds like you're making progress every day, even if it doesn't mean words on paper yet. Evie is adorable, and I hope she makes an excellent companion.

Well, that was pretty dang good for someone who had nothing to say. Funny how it's often people who have a lot to say who say nothing in the end, and people who have 'nothing to say' who say it well. And congrats on your new writing space, too.

Thanks, Brenda. I find I'm missing Calvin more and more as time goes on. Now that the rush to take care of all kinds of matters is over.

Rolynn, I'm hoping the new space will make me feel more professional than someone who sits around all day with a laptop on her thighs. Thanks.

Evie is an excellent companion, Alison. She's a snuggle bunnie at times.

Andrea, I've met many talkers who say little of value. But I was in a bit of a panic when it came time to write this post.

You had lots to say, Vonnie. The new writing space sound great. Love your little Evie. She must be good company. With each post, you are writing. It will take a long time before you're back to your "normal" writing. While not having a pity party, you need to take your time. Hugs.

Thanks Diane. I've been focusing on the house. Cleaning, tossing out, and having rooms repainted. Then I'll start writing heavily again. That and spoiling Evie, of course.

One word at a time. That's the best I hope for and then it seems to come together.
